Vice President, Research

 

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Vice President of Research to join the management team. This newly created role will report to the CEO and lead the company’s preclinical research initiatives. The main responsibility for this key leadership position is to prioritize and organize current projects while building internal expertise and ability to generate proprietary data to grow the Modis Tx research pipeline.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Build internal R&D organization and infrastructure
  • Manage collaborations and sponsored research with academic investigators
  • Develop criteria or system to prioritize projects based on individual stage of development, commercial potential, strategic fit, etc.
  • Develop actionable research plans, budgets, with milestones for each project
  • Close gaps in expertise by sourcing and engaging outside experts as needed
  • Provide technical input on in-licensing and business development projects
  • Build internal capability to transition projects currently led by academic collaborators to a combination of CROs and/or internal operations

Professional and Educational Requirements

  • PhD required; experience in drug development projects in neuromuscular disease is preferred but not necessary
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in R&D with a majority of that experience in industry
  • Must have experience working with early preclinical small molecule candidates that have at least progressed to an IND
  • Experience with a variety of therapeutic modalities (small molecules, biologics, gene therapy, oligonucleotides) desirable
  • Successful record in scientific leadership and translating new science to the clinic
